Ian joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County in August of 2014, after moving back to the area from Boston, MA. As a former high school & college teacher, Ian spent years in public education, focused on continued innovation & excellence in the fields of English and Economics, especially. A longtime lover of all things literary (especially, Hamlet), Ian loved teaching writing and helping students enjoy the thrills of reading. His passion for youth education and opportunities brought him to the Clubs, where he has dedicated his energies to increasing the depth & breadth of partnerships that support the ongoing programs for members.Ian was raised on a sheep ranch in South Mount Vernon and attended Conway School & Mount Vernon High School. He remembers attending his first Boys & Girls Club meeting at the Mount Vernon facility, while in high school, and loved seeing the excitement of Club members towards the special place. Leaving the area to pursue collegiate studies in Michigan, followed by graduate work overseas, at Oxford University, Ian fell in love with the liberal arts, learning, and his wife, while abroad.Ian lives in Mount Vernon with his wife, Theresa, where he spends his free time answering endless questions from his pontificating son, Hugh, and enjoys the antics of his precocious daughter, Evie. Ian is thrilled about his involvement with Boys & Girls Club youth development and looks forward to seeing the continued improvement of the Skagit County Clubs, as he shares his passion and commitment with the community. He is happy to be back in the area where he learned to build fences, play rugby, and quote Shakespeare.
