General Program Information

With the combined efforts of Anacortes Family Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County, and Island Health, a new innovative Preschool is opening in Fall 2023.

The Anacortes Discovery Center Preschool & Early Learning Community is specifically designed for young people aged 30 months (who are fully potty trained) through to their first day of Kindergarten when they transition to membership at their community Clubhouse. The Boys & Girls Club’s focus on providing youth with a safe, fun, and positive place to serve as the foundational building blocks for this new initiative, and the organization is excited to increase the age range of students we serve, meeting more of the needs of families in our community.

Students will be offered breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack daily.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County will have no cap on the number of families participating eligible for WCCC/DCYF Childcare Subsidies.

Program Design Strategies

Our purpose is to educate young members in an atmosphere designed to build self-esteem, confidence, and personal achievement while promoting respect for others in a positive environment. We aim to foster a natural love of learning in both group and individual settings that equip each child to reach their full potential as a productive, responsible, and caring adult in the community in the future.

Creative Curriculum by Teaching Strategies has been adopted for implementation and is a benchmark for wrap-around programs, activities, and family engagement strategies nationwide. Through regular individual assessments, classroom teachers can scale and scaffold each child’s learning experience to accelerate their mastery of developmental standards.

A state-of-the-art, secure facility with large classrooms offering lots of natural light will ensure students thrive in an environment regularly and purposefully integrating Music, The Arts, STEM, and all manners of creative discovery and inquiry. Because of limited outside space, regular trips to area parks and the Anacortes Boys & Girls Club gymnasium will occur and be augmented by intentional field trips in the community. Regular transportation will be provided by Thomas Minotour vehicles meeting Multi-Function School Activity Bus standards and include integrated child seats for additional layers of safety.
